"Live life as it should be, See with the eyes of a child, Hear every beat of life , Feel from deep within the heart And smell the breath of love and life every second of the day." |
Date: October 3rd, 2001 Educating children is very difficult yet rewarding. It is a noble profession yet in my country, it has lost its nobility. I was once a teacher myself but that was about 6 years ago. I was trained to be a primary school teacher specialising in English but in the primary school, one practically had to teach all subjects. Sometimes I think back to those teaching days. Having gone through the system, it opened my eyes to a lot of things, how teachers behave, think and how management works. It's true what they say, teachers can be childish and petty after some time. Not all teachers are bad, some are really very good and want to make a difference but the bad hats are just as many. Because teaching is a government job, you can't really get sacked. So most of them go to class, go "blah, blah" and don't really care about whether the students learn as long as they have done their duty of "teaching". Then there is the inner struggle among those aspiring to be the Assistant Principle or some other position of authority in the school. I don't understand what they get out of it, just a small sum of extra allowance. Perhaps they derive satisfaction from ordering teachers to do work for which they themselves would get recognition. Or perhaps they want to be in the good books of the people in the Education Office. I am sure that there are many teachers who share my experience and thoughts unless "siapa makan cili, dia rasa pedas".
